Hey there friends! It’s time again for another Blog Hops with Heart and this month we are featuring an “End of the Summer” theme. You would have come from Amie Kiger’s Blog if you started at the beginning of the blog hop. If you’re just starting here, WELCOME! You can make your way around the entire hop by clicking the link at the bottom of my post.
For my layout today I used the Pink Paislee Summer Lights Collection. When I was going through all of the patterned papers I initially thought I would use the colorful polka dottedĀ patterned paper #03 , but I was in the mood to create my own polka dotted background with some mixed media goodies. So I grabbed a sheet of CTMH White Daisy Cardstock, added a layer of clear gesso and then the fun began!
I started the mixed media process with my Jane Davenport Brights Watercolors. I grabbed the bright, beautiful yellow from this watercolor set and used the packaging technique to apply color to the background. After the watercolor was dry I used pink & purple acrylic paints from my stash and mixed those colors with white modeling paste. Then I applied the colored modeling paste through The Crafter’s Workshop Tiny Circle Stencil to create a polka dot background.
After the modeling paste was dry I went to my photo that I printed using my Canon Selphy Printer. This photo was taken using one of the fun, new Instagram filters! I love the summer vibe of the photo! I added minimal layers behind my photo including a layer of white tissue paper and fun foam to elevate the photo from the background for additional dimension. I used multiple pieces from the Pink Paislee Summer Lights Die Cut Pack, which includes really fun holographic foiled pieces, for the title and embellishing. Much to my surprise I didn’t use any patterned papers on this layout!
For final touches, I splattered watered down teal acrylic paint, added tangled pink thread around the photo and added the date using a roller date stamp with a retired CTMH pink ink. I didn’t add any journaling to this layout because it wasn’t a special occasion. Just me and my kiddo taking silly selfies.
Now you can take a look at my process video.
I hope you’re finding inspiration on our End of Summer Blog Hop!
Next up is the talented Wendy Coffman!
