Happy Anniversary | Blog Hops with Heart

Blog Hops with Heart celebrated our one year anniversary in January…AND we missed it! But it is better to celebrate late than to not celebrate at all, so for our hop this month we are creating anniversary themed projects! You would have come from Amie Kiger’s blog if you started at the beginning of the blog hop, but you can still make your way around the entire hop by clicking the link at the bottom of my post.

For my project today I thought it would be fun to document older photos of my husband and myself from when we were dating. We went on our first date 15 years ago and these are some of the first photos we had taken as a couple. And seriously, 15 YEARS?! How does time go by so quickly?! We were 18 years old and fresh out of high school when we went on our first date. We worked at the same restaurant (I was a waitress, he was a cook) but we had known each other since we were little….growing up in a small town will do that for you! We ran in different circles in high school, but knew each other and would say hi in passing. Mutual friends set us up on a double date and the rest is history. Andy hasn’t aged a bit, but I sure have! HA!

The photos I planned on using were taken before digital was a thing or at least before it was popular. I didn’t have the negatives and jpegs of these photos don’t exist so I snapped photos of the photos to convert the images to black and white using Picmonkey. This way the photos are cohesive and flow together well on the layout. The originals are a wide range of colors and never would have mixed well together without converting them to B&W.

For my title I used the chipboard sentiment, Happy Heart, from the Crate Paper-Maggie Holmes-Chasing Dreams Collection. The sentiment is large and large pieces can sometimes be a little overwhelming to me. It can be tricky finding a place for these large pieces on a layout, but because my photos are so small I needed large elements to help fill the page.

I started with a black polka dot patterned paper from Maggie Holmes Gather Collection. I also grabbed a few die cuts from the Pink Paislee Oh My Heart Collection designed by Paige Evans & white Baker’s Twine from CTMH. After I had all of the main elements I went to work putting the layout together.

I positioned the title just slightly off center on the Maggie Holmes patterned paper. I added three strands of white Baker’s Twine above and below the photos and used my CTMH mini stapler to secure the strands to the page. I then added a couple floral die cuts from the Paige Evans Oh My Heart Collection. For a little added dimension I also added a floral sticker from the Oh My Heart Thickers sheet.

For final touches I added a few dipped wood veneer hearts from Pinkfresh Studio and an adorable puffy bird sticker from Hip Kit Club that I’ve been hoarding! I heated embossed the dates on vellum using white embossing powder and adhered the date to each photo. Vellum can be a bit tricky to adhere because pretty much all adhesive shows through, but I’ve found that using my Xyron Sticker Maker does the trick!

#Hustle | The Cut Shoppe

Hey crafty friends!! I’m back today with a new layout that was recently shared on The Cut Shoppe Blog using the Going Geo Cut File.

I started with a light kraft cardstock base and added a wash of white acrylic paint to the background. In Cricut Design Space I enlarged the “Go” Geotag, included in the Going Geo Cut File set, to 10.5″ and cut the image on a pattern paper from the Amy Tangerine-On A Whim Collection. The white acrylic paint helps the cut file image pop off the background and to add a little more definition to the cut file I added hand stitching using hot pink embroidery floss.

After the hand stitching was complete I moved on the photo. I added a couple layers of white tissue paper and fun foam to the photo to help elevate it from the background. I tucked multiple die cuts, clear stickers, and stickers from the On A Whim sticker book around the photo for extra pops of color. I love all of the bright colors in this collection!

The title of my page is #Hustle from the On A Whim chipboard sticker sheet. After I received this sticker sheet I wasn’t sure how I would use the word ‘Hustle’. When I think of this word I think of sports related activities but I don’t have those type of photos to scrapbook. Then I remembered that I had this photo of the airport from a recent trip we went on. We were going to Vegas and had a terrible experience with the airline! Our flight was cancelled as we were walking out the door to head to the airport and we couldn’t find another flight out from the original airport because, like us, everyone on the cancelled flight was looking for another flight out. We ended up finding seats at a different airport but had to HUSTLE to make it there on time. We arrived at the gate as the plane was boarding, but we made it! This photo was actually taken after we had returned home because I didn’t have one second to snap a photo as we were running into the airport to try to make our outgoing flight! This memory is actually one that stands out the most in my head from this vacation so it is fitting that it will be the opening page to our Vegas scrapbook.

I added the journaling using my We R Memory Keepers Typecast Typewriter, cut the journaling into strips, and added it directly under my photo. I finished the layout by adding splatters of Hot Pink Heidi Swapp Color Shine.

I’ve also put together a process video showing how this layout came together!

Thank you so much for joining me today and remember to head over to The Cut Shoppe Etsy Store to check out all of the cut files!

Love This Life | Hip Kit Club

Hey friends! I’m back with a new layout for Hip Kit Club using the February 2017 Kits.

Hip Kit Club | February 2017 Kits | Maggie Holmes-Chasing Dreams

This week we are doing something a little bit different in the Hip Kit Club Facebook Forum. Instead of a sketch we are scraplifting this layout from the talented Bea Valint. For my layout, I started by cutting one of the January 2017 cut files on a patterned paper from the Maggie Holmes-Chasing Dreams Collection, which is included in the Main Kit. I then placed the cut file onto a sheet of American Crafts Peacock textured cardstock from the Cardstock Kit. I am in LOVE with the color of this cardstock!! I also added machine stitching around the border of the heart cut file to secure it to the page and to add a little more texture.

I then moved to my photo. I debated on adding a white border around the photo with white cardstock, but I wasn’t planning on adding any other white elements to the page so I opted to add a couple layers of vellum instead. I then grabbed multiple florals from the Maggie Holmes-Chasing Dreams ephemera pack (from the Main Kit) and arranged them to the left of the photo. This Chasing Dreams Collection is gorgeous and I had to use one of the chipboard stickers (included in Main Kit) along the bottom of the photo. I love how the shape of the chipboard sticker frames the photo!

I then wanted to add a cluster to the top right to help balance the weight of the design. I used a bird ephemera piece from the Chasing Dreams ephemera pack and another one of the Chasing Dreams chipboard sentiment stickers. I then added my journaling to the bottom right. I am so happy with how this layout came together! It’s whimsical which is exactly what I was going for and it actually came together rather quickly! Using a large cut file image is a great trick to make a fast page!!

Make A Wish | The Cut Shoppe

Hey friends! I’m back with a new layout that was recently shared on The Cut Shoppe Blog using the Party On Cut File.

The Cut Shoppe | Party On Cut File | Bella Blvd-Alex Collection | Crate Paper-Cool Kid Collection

The Cut Shoppe | Party On Cut File

I started in Cricut Design Space by slicing out the “Make a Wish” sentiment from the Party On Cut File set. My idea for this layout was to have a large title placed diagonally across the center of a 12×12 sheet of cardstock so I resized the sentiment to 13.5″. Now if you are familiar with Cricut Design Space then you know that 11.5″ is the largest image that you can cut, but 11.5″ just wasn’t going to be large enough!! DS will automatically reset your mat size to 12×24″ if your image is larger then 11.5″ so I just continued onto the cut screen. Now I do not have a mat that size, but wanted to see if there was a way I could “trick” DS into cutting this 13.5″ image on a 12×12″ mat.  Once I was on the cut screen I used the rotation arrow to rotate the sentiment at an angle. I was sure to keep the image within the 12″ grid lines. I sent the image to cut once I had it positioned the way I liked and it cut perfectly! I was able to cut a 13.5″ image on a 12×12″ mat!

I cut the ‘Make a Wish’ sentiment in both black and white cardstock because I wasn’t sure which I would like to use as the background. I ended up deciding on the black cardstock, but used the sentiment cut on the white cardstock behind the black cardstock to create a shadow effect. I love the extra depth, dimension and interest this adds to the layout. It is subtle but those subtle details sometimes make all the difference! I also backed the sentiment with a pattern paper from the Bella Blvd-Alex Collection. I added hand stitching using white embroidery floss around each of the letters to help give a border and to help them pop off the page a bit more. I added a photo above and below the sentiment along with embellishments from the Crate Paper-Cool Kid Collection and the Bella Blvd-Alex Collection.

I love these photos of Aidan! I also love that after 9 years I finally have a photo that is in focus as he is blowing out his birthday candles! HA!
