So Much Fun | Hip Kit Club

Hi friends! I’m back with a new layout for Hip Kit Club using the November 2016 Kits and the Documenting December Kit. This week’s layout is based off the HKC Facebook Member Forum Sketch #3.

Hip Kit Club November 2016 Hip Kits | Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa & HKC Exclusives

I started by cutting two filmstrips, from a couple Cricut carts that I have in my stash, on two Crate Paper-Snow and Cocoa pattern papers from the Main Kit. For added detail I tucked in a few snowflakes (2 are from an Exclusive HKC Cut File & the other is from the Crate Paper-Snow and Cocoa ephemera pack included in the December Documented Kit). I used the American Crafts Fountain Cardstock from the Cardstock Kit and yet another pattern paper from the Crate Paper -Snow and Cocoa Collection for the layers behind my photo. The Snow and Cocoa Collection is so beautiful!! I think I could use this collection for all my wintery/Christmas themed layouts forever!

Once I knew where I wanted the layers to sit I grabbed the Well Blue Me Down Shimmerz Mist that is included in the Color Kit and applied a watercolor background using the packaging technique. I wanted to add a bit more mixed media so I used the Foiled Again Dazzlerz Texture Paste and the Echo Park stencil that is also included in the Color Kit to make a few horizontal lines above and below the photo.

Next I moved onto adding a cluster towards the bottom left hand side of the layout. I grabbed a couple ephemera pieces from the HKC exclusive ‘Tis the Season ephemera pack, included in the Main Kit, and another snowflake cut from the same HKC exclusive cut file. Have I mentioned before that there are free cut files on HKC’s website? Yep, free cut files, even for those who are not subscribers to the kits! AND…there is currently a 12 Days of Giving celebration happening where a free cut file is released each night December 1-12, 2016. You have to be registered on the HKC website in order to have access to the freebie cut files and it’s a simple process. Just enter your email address and you are good to go!

Once I had the cluster arranged I wanted to add a couple pops of color along the left hand side of the layout. So I cut one of the manufacturing strips from an exclusive pattern paper included in the December Documented Kit and added another pop of color using a pink polka dot pattern paper from the Crate Paper-Snow and Cocoa Collection that is included in the Main Kit. I used my scallop border punch and a teal colored pattern paper from the Snow and Cocoa Collection for a little added interest.

My journaling was a bit tricky for this layout. It is a long story about the night we decided to go to a dollar theater to see a movie. The theater was cold…like cold, cold. We had to wear our winter coats the whole time! There was a musty smell and a bright yellow line running straight down the center of the screen for the entire movie. It was like we were watching the movie on two separate screens. Not to mention all the pops, flickers and cracks while the movie played. It was an absolutely terrible movie going experience but it is one of my all time favorite memories of us as a family. As the events continued to play out we laughed until I thought I would cry. It was a true you get what you pay for experience!

In order to document that entire story I typed my journaling on my We R Memory Keepers Typecast Typewriter and cut it into thin strips. I then positioned the strips on the right & left side of the photo. This allowed me to tell the whole story without having to run the journaling down the entire length of the page. It kept is concise and doesn’t distract from the photo, the embellishing or the mixed media. For final touches I added silver metallic machine stitching and a sprinkling of sequins.

Here’s a process video showing how this layout came together!

Snow Buddies | Hip Kit Club

Hi crafty friends! If you saw my post last week then you know that Hip Kit Club is offering a free sketch in the HKC Facebook Forum! This week sketch number 2 was released and I have a new layout to share based off of that sketch using the 2016 November Kits and the December Documented Kit!

I started with an American Crafts white textured cardstock included in the Cardstock Kit for my base. I then cut banners using one of the Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa pattern papers included in the Main Kit. I designed the banners in Cricut Design Space and used one of the Hip Kit Club exclusive cut files to slice out snowflakes from each banner. Speaking of cut files, did you know the HKC offers free cut files to everyone?! All you have to do is create an account on the HKC website. There is no obligation to purchase a kit….Just create an account and then click on the downloads tab. I love the little something extra that cut files bring to any papercrafting project!

Once I had the banners positioned I moved onto the layers behind my photo. I used multiple Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa pattern papers included in the Main Kit and also a dark grey American Crafts Cardstock from the Cardstock Kit. To add a little more interest and pops of color in the photo mat I added a couple of ephemera pieces from the exclusive HKC ‘Tis the Season ephemera pack from the Main Kit and ephemera pieces from the Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa ephemera pack included in the December Documented Kit.

I added a couple more clusters around the page to create a visual triangle. The cluster next to the photo consists of ephemera pieces from the Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa ephemera pack, snowflakes cut on white cardstock from an exclusive HKC cut file, and a light pink scalloped circle that was cut from one of the cardstock papers included in the 2016 October Cardstock Kit. I also added a small cluster using similar elements towards the bottom of the layout. I also pulled out my Martha Stewart Scoreboard (that I haven’t used in YEARS!) to add a little details around the border of the page.

Now moving onto my title…I used a combination of the Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa wood veneer shapes from the Main Kit and the beautiful teal and gold chipboard alphas from Pinkfresh Studio from the December Documented Kit. The wood veneer pieces were blending in with the kraft colored pattern paper so I grabbed my silver glitter embossing powder from my stash and altered the wood veneer to help it stand out from the background. Mixing gold and silver on a layout has never bothered me especially when it is a winter or Christmas themed layout. I know there are people who like to stick with one or the other on layouts but I think as long as there are equal measures of both that they balance out. So to help equalize the gold and silver I added multiple areas of stitching using gold & silver metallic thread.

This photo is so sweet and I just love these kiddos!!! This photo was taken last year at recess after I had lunch with Aidan. Aidan’s cousin is in the same grade and I just love the friendship they have with each other. I didn’t have cousins close to my age growing up so it has just been so fun watching their friendship develop. I’m so glad that they will always have a friend and always have someone to play with! And seriously, how cute are they?!?

I wanted to add a little more detail to the layout so I grabbed white embroidery floss and the fun Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa pom poms from the December Documented Kit and made a garland that runs across the page! It adds a little dimension and pops of color! I also added a few splatters of gold Heidi Swapp Color Shine.

I’ve put together a process video showing how this layout came together! It also includes a Cricut Design Space tutorial showing you how I created the banners from scratch!
