Hip Kit Sketch

I recently received the March Hip Kits and I had to play along with the challenge in the Hip Kit Club Facebook Forum. This week’s challenge was a sketch designed by Ashley Horton.

I started by grabbing 3 photos that closely matched the colors in the kit. I paired them with a 3×4 card from the Project Life Kit that also serves as my title. I added green hand stitching around the PL card to give a little added definition to the card. I added a layer of green striped paper that is exclusive this month and then the yellow triangles are from a Pink Fresh Studio paper included in the kit.

Once I had my photo cluster arranged I cut the exclusive butterfly cut file on watercolor paper. I then used the Shimmerz Aqua Huez from the Color Kit to paint them a vibrant green color. When I laid the butterflies onto my white cardstock they were a little too bold so I cut the file again in vellum and added a layer of stitching.

After I had the photos and butterflies down I started adding Pink Fresh tiny word stickers, puffy sequin stickers, Basic Grey enamel dots, Pink Fresh wood veneer hearts, and other ephemera available in the Main Kit, PL kit, and Embellishment Kit. The date is stamped using a retired date stamp from CTMH. I didn’t really feel journaling was necessary for this layout because it was just a fun day at the park. One thing that strikes me now is how much Aidan has grown. We were recently at this park and it is just mind boggling how much he has grown and changed in such a short time frame.

AHSC #150

I’m back again with another card for Atlantic Hearts.

AHSC #150

I started by switching out the rectangular shapes in the sketch for triangles using the Geometric Graffiti Cut File from The Cut Shoppe. This particular cut file is a background file that has a lot of triangles so I grabbed just a couple different shaped triangles and shrunk them down to the size I wanted. With the magic of Cricut® Design Space I created a panel for my card using black cardstock. I then backed the triangles with a couple of different patterned papers from American Crafts. For added interest I placed tiny pieces of grey paper along the edges of the triangles.

Now at this point I placed the black panel on the white card base and it was missing something. So I added another piece of white cardstock and just had it peek out from the top and left of the black panel. I had intended on using my sewing machine to stitch the panel but I am currently out of black thread. So I grabbed my embroidery floss and hand stitched along the edge. The sentiment comes from a Freckled Fawn die and a scrap piece of pink paper I had in my stash. I then added a few Pink Flamingo Dots for the final touches.

My card really took on a life of its own this week. I had intended on just switching out the rectangles for triangles but I couldn’t get a banner to work well along the bottom of the card so I opted to use a large sentiment instead. This is the thing I enjoy the most about sketches. They are intended to give you a starting point to spark your creativity. I would love to see your interpretation of sketch #150 so head over to Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge to enter today!
