Paper Flower Heart

It’s so hard to believe it is September! I’m itching to start working on Fall and Halloween themed layouts, but before I switch gears I have another summer themed layout to share with you.

I had these CTMH white paper flowers in my stash for YEARS. In fact I had moved them into my garage sale/purge pile when I had an idea come to mind. So I quickly grabbed both tubes of flowers and went to work. I started with Patterned Paper #15 from the Pink Paislee Oh My Heart Collection designed by Paige Evans. I used my Cricut Explore to create a heart template and then used white gesso to create a heart shape on the purple patterned paper. I wanted to use white gesso rather than clear gesso because I wanted to fade out the purple in the center of this heart so the watercolor that I was going to apply would be more visible.

After the gesso had dried I grabbed the Jane Davenport Brights Watercolors and mixed a couple colors from the palette to create a shade of violet. Using the packaging technique I added color in the center of the heart and also the areas that I intended to place my photos. Once the watercolor was dry I used white thread and machine stitched around the heart 6 or 7 times to give the heart a defined edge. I then used Scotch Tacky Glue Adhesive to adhere the flowers in the center of the heart shape. Once the flowers were adhered I added splatters to the flowers with the same violet watercolor paint.

I then moved onto my photo clusters. I have two photos from Mother’s Day that I printed twice using my Canon Selphy Printer. I stapled the same photos together using my CTMH Mini Stapler to create a layer and then also used multiple ephemera pieces from the Oh My Heart Ephemera Pack as layers behind the photos. I added the title using the Oh My Heart Alpha Thickers under the photo on the right and to help balance the design I used the tiny alpha stickers from the Oh My Heart Sticker Book to create a subtitle under the left photo.

For final touches I added a chipboard bird from the Oh My Heart Chipboard Thickers and a few flowers from the Oh My Heart Puffy Stickers. I typed the journaling using the We R Memory Keepers Typecast Typewriter on a scrap piece of white cardstock. I cut the journaling into strips and it wasn’t until I was editing the photos for my blog post that I realized I adhered them out of order! HA!

I really love the texture of these white paper flowers and it was so satisfying to find a way to use them after all these years!

I put together a process video so you can see exactly how this layout came together!

End of Summer Blog Hop | Blog Hops with Heart

Hey there friends! It’s time again for another Blog Hops with Heart and this month we are featuring an “End of the Summer” theme. You would have come from Amie Kiger’s Blog if you started at the beginning of the blog hop. If you’re just starting here, WELCOME! You can make your way around the entire hop by clicking the link at the bottom of my post.

For my layout today I used the Pink Paislee Summer Lights Collection. When I was going through all of the patterned papers I initially thought I would use the colorful polka dotted patterned paper #03 , but I was in the mood to create my own polka dotted background with some mixed media goodies. So I grabbed a sheet of CTMH White Daisy Cardstock, added a layer of clear gesso and then the fun began!

I started the mixed media process with my Jane Davenport Brights Watercolors. I grabbed the bright, beautiful yellow from this watercolor set and used the packaging technique to apply color to the background. After the watercolor was dry I used pink & purple acrylic paints from my stash and mixed those colors with white modeling paste. Then I applied the colored modeling paste through The Crafter’s Workshop Tiny Circle Stencil to create a polka dot background.

After the modeling paste was dry I went to my photo that I printed using my Canon Selphy Printer. This photo was taken using one of the fun, new Instagram filters! I love the summer vibe of the photo! I added minimal layers behind my photo including a layer of white tissue paper and fun foam to elevate the photo from the background for additional dimension. I used multiple pieces from the Pink Paislee Summer Lights Die Cut Pack, which includes really fun holographic foiled pieces, for the title and embellishing. Much to my surprise I didn’t use any patterned papers on this layout!

For final touches, I splattered watered down teal acrylic paint, added tangled pink thread around the photo and added the date using a roller date stamp with a retired CTMH pink ink. I didn’t add any journaling to this layout because it wasn’t a special occasion. Just me and my kiddo taking silly selfies.
