Happy Easter | Hip Kit Club

Hello friends! I’m back to share my second layout using the January 2017 Hip Kits!

This layout is a little different than my typical style. I LOVE to use pattern papers as backgrounds, but I tend to stick with papers that have subtle patterns. I went outside my comfort zone (which is the best way to stretch your creativity) and grabbed a HKC exclusive pattern paper to use as my background. Using my Cricut Explore, I cut hexagons in multiple sizes using one of the American Crafts – 1 Canoe 2 – Hazelwood pattern papers from the Main Kit.

I added hand stitching using white embroidery floss to each of the hexagons and to add a little more pattern to the mix I grabbed a few hexagons from the HKC exclusive die cut pack that is included in the Embellishment Kit. I positioned all of the hexagons in clusters around the page and then started focusing on my layers for my photos.

I used multiple Project Life cards from the Project Life Kit for the layers behind my photos. As I was layering the cards I realized that a large portion of the floral image was hidden. So I grabbed my craft knife and cut around a portion of the edge of the flower. I then tucked slide the gray Project Life card behind the floral image. This was the perfect way to be sure that the entire floral image would be seen.

Next I moved onto my title. I’ve mentioned it before and I’ll mention it again, one of the great things about HKC is the amount of Thickers/alphabet sets that you receive in the kits. There is such a great selection of fonts and colors to choose from. I decided to use the word ‘Happy’ from the HKC exclusive die cut pack from the Embellishment Kit and paired it with the white puffy alpha stickers from Studio Calico that are included in the Project Life Kit. I wanted to add a little depth to the word ‘Happy’ so I used an eraser and just lightly went over each letter to create a bit of shading.

I wanted to embellish the layout a little more, but I wanted to be sure the added details were subtle because the layout already felt so busy. I grabbed a couple cork shapes from the 1 Canoe 2 – Hazelwood Collection from the Main Kit. I also added a couple stickers, from the Project Life Kit, to the layout from the same Hazelwood Collection. I wanted to add a third cork shape to the layout to help create a visual triangle, but I couldn’t find a cork shape that was the right size in the Hazelwood Collection pack. So, I went to the cork pieces from the Pink Paislee Moonstruck Collection that is included in the Embellishment Kit and found the perfect size piece to add.

I also used a few of the Hazelwood butterfly rub-ons, from the Main Kit, but I first applied the rub-ons to vellum. After the butterflies were on the vellum I fussy cut them and used them as ephemera pieces on the layout. This is a great way to use rub-ons especially if you are unsure of placement. Vellum can be tricky to adhere to layouts because the tape runner or liquid adhesive shows through the vellum. I have found that using a Xyron Sticker Maker fully covers the vellum with adhesive AND you can’t see the adhesive!!

I love the photos of these kiddos in action right before their Easter Egg Hunt. Makes me ready for spring and warmer weather!

I’ve also put together a process video so you can see how all of this came together!
