Camping Fun

I recently shared this layout featuring photos from my son’s Cub Scout Camporee. I included 13 photos in that layout so I didn’t have a lot of room for journaling. I created a second layout featuring a large photo and journaling on his favorite activities and all the fun things we did that day.

I started with a Whisper Cardstock base and added The Happy Camper Cut File from The Cut Shoppe on Colonial White Cardstock. I knew I wanted to back the cut file but I didn’t have a patterned paper that I liked. So I grabbed a couple tones of silver acrylic paint and mixed those colors with black acrylic paint until I achieved the color I was looking for. I really like how the brush strokes almost have a woodgrain look!

The Cut Shoppe-Happy Camper, Cut Files, CTMH-Urban

Once the paint had dried I used multiple layers from the Urban Paper Packet to back my photo. I also included a lot of products that have been looming in my stash for a long time-including the silver bracket frames, stickers from the retired CTMH Jackson line, vellum stickers, CTMH cork chevrons, a tag and twine! The title is a wood grain sticker sheet from Basic Grey. For the finishing touches I incorporated the journaling by writing around the cut file. When I think of camping I think of laying under the stars so I splashed Heidi Swapp Tinsel Color Shine in the corners of the page.

Prickly Hug

I’m the least competitive person you will ever meet. I actually run from competition. I’m not a sports fan, I struggle watching reality TV, competition is just not something I enjoy! BUT I do enjoy a sketch challenge!! I came across the CAS(E) this Sketch #161 and I loved it! I’ve also been dying to use the Stuck On You Stamp Set and coordinating dies! My take on the sketch was slightly modified by moving the central image into the lower left hand corner.

CTMH-Stuck on You Stamp & Dies

My card base is an olive color card base that I’ve had A LONG time from Archiver’s. I next used a watercolor panel with cheap watercolor paints. I tried to create a sky, sunset feel so I used blues, yellows, and a little pink in there. I next heat embossed the cactus, flower, and planter pot from the Stuck On You Stamp Set in Cocoa Embossing Powder. I colored all of those images using the same watercolor paints. I used the coordinating Stuck On You Thin Cut Dies to cut out all of those images. There is just something amazing and slightly magical when you pull the paper off the Big Shot platform and see the perfectly cut images! I positioned everything where I wanted, but the cactus seemed to be floating on the card. I grabbed the Teacher Appreciation Stamp Set and used the lined image to help ground the plants.

I then stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set in Versamark™ Ink directly onto the watercolor panel. The stamped image wasn’t crisp and clear so I dusted off the Cocoa Embossing Powder. One of the things I enjoy about papercrafting is the bloopers that happen while making a card or scrapbook page. I’m a firm believer in there is always a way to come back from a mistake and a way to salvage the project. I heat embossed the sentiment on vellum and fussy cut each word to cover my boo-boo. All is well!
