In Love with Fall

Yay for fall weather!!! The leaves are changing but haven’t fallen from the trees yet which means I’m able to enjoy the weather and beauty without the work of raking!

I’ve stopped scrapbooking chronologically and have just been scrapping what my little heart desires. Right now I’m feeling fallish. So I was going through my photos and found this gem from 2012. I always take way too many pictures and have to filter through them all to figure out which ones to scrapbook. I had 6 or 7 photos from this random fall day when we were raking leaves but this one picture summed up the entire day. The beauty of that particular fall day, the HUGE smile on his face, the big leap in the air which you know is followed by a crash into the leaves and a laugh from my then 4 year old little boy. There’s also a hint of his toy mower in the background which he was using to bulldoze through the leaves that day. I can still remember his laugh as the leaves were flying all around him when he would run through the piles that I had just raked.  It still amazes me that a photo can bring back memories, thoughts and feelings on a particular moment in time. Photos really do hold emotions.  This photo has frozen time from that day and I am forever grateful for those memories.

There’s a whole lotta  Simple Stories-Sweater Weather on this layout, a few splashes of the retired CTMH Pathfinding Collection, and some other odds & ends that I’m unsure of the labels. This layout consists mainly of layering scrap pieces that I had left over from previous layouts and minimal embellishing.  The leaf & acorn die cuts {you can read more about those below} are cut on white cardstock and colored with cheap pearlescent watercolor paints from Michael’s. I debated on adding strips of papers on the left hand side of the layout but in the end decided just to add machine stitching around 3 sides of the layout.

One of my new obsessions are cut files. I’ve had my Cricut® Explore for a LONG time but rarely use it. I have to lug my laptop up to my craft room and I’m not much of a planner when it comes to scrapbooking so it’s typically easier to just use my E2 because a computer isn’t necessary. BUT with my new found obsession I’ve been using my Explore more often! This layout has two {Leaf It To Me & Autumn Acorns} cut files from The Cut Shoppe, which is one of my fave Etsy stores and  I’m linking this layout to The Cut Shoppe Blog October Challenge.

AHSC #128

It’s Monday so it’s time for another Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!

CTMH: Spook Alley & Nevermore

AHSC128

I started by rotating the sketch counterclockwise. I used the Nevermore Paper Packet for the B&T papers and the yellow circle, aka the moon, was just a scrap from my stash. The tree is a felt shape that was available from CTMH years ago (Heartfelt Felt Shapes) that was originally a chocolate brown color that I altered using black acrylic paint. I substituted the second small circle for the cute cat image that is stamped on Slate Cardstock. The cat and sentiment are from the retired CTMH stamp set, Spook Alley, that I heat embossed using Black Pigment Ink and Clear Embossing Powder. The sentiment comes on the carrier sheet in a straight line, but because the CTMH clear polymer stamps are pliable I was able to manipulate the sentiment to fit around the circle. I wanted to give the gray B&T a little definition so I heat embossed the edge of the B&T using the same mini Black Pigment Ink Pad and Clear Embossing Powder.

Now it’s difficult to see in the pictures but the felt tree has a lot of dimension so I stamped, fussy cut, and layered 4 of the same cat image to give the cat more dimension. After I added some stitching I adhered the B&Ts to a top folding piece of White Daisy Cardstock. Once the card was assembled it looked like the cat and tree were just floating on the card, so I placed a K&Company grass border on the bottom of the card to ground the cat & tree. For final embellies I added a bow tie to the cat from the Stuck On You Puffies sticker sheet & White Enamel Stars that I altered using the Black Shinhan™ Touch Twin™ Marker.

I would love to see your interpretation of AHSC #128! Head over to Atlantic Heart Sketch Challenge and enter your card today!
