Arcade Love + Space Cadet | The Cut Shoppe

Hey there friends! I’m back today to share a layout that was recently on The Cut Shoppe Blog using the Space Cadet Cut File.

I started in Cricut Design Space by enlarging the cut file to 11.5″ and then cut it on a piece of pattern paper from the Bella Blvd Alex Collection. I applied a layer of Clear Gesso before I adhered the cut file to the white cardstock in order to prep the paper for the upcoming mixed media. I wasn’t sure how much water I would be applying to the background so it’s always a good idea to add the primer to be sure the paper won’t tear or warp too much.

I ended up choosing a yellow acrylic paint from the Bella Blvd-Illustrated Faith Shanna’s Favorites Paint Set and mixed that yellow paint with white acrylic paint from my stash. I was trying to match the yellow in the Bella Blvd Alex Die Cuts. I used the packaging technique to apply the paint to the center of the white cardstock. I then added splatters using a couple green paints from my stash, an orange acrylic paint from the same Illustrated Faith paint set, and Black Heidi Swapp Color Shine.

I then added multiple Bella Blvd Alex Die Cuts and stickers from the Alex 12×12 Sticker Sheet. I added a very small title, Arcade Love, using Tim Holtz Label Letters Alphabet Stickers. For final touches I added zig-zag stitching using my Sewing Machine.

Now you can take a look at my process video to see how this layout came together!

This layout is so very much my son! From the die cuts, the phrases and the video game theme. The Alex Collection fits my son’s personality so well, and the Space Cadet Cut File just adds to the fun! Remember to head to The Cut Shoppe Etsy Store to check out all of the cut files and digital collections!
